If you do not set a life vision, you will drive blindly toward goals that may not allow you to live the life you envisioned.
Vision setting and goal setting are very different. Unpopular opinion here…but I’ve never understood the “what’s your 5 or 10 year goal?” question. Who the heck knows what life is going to look like 5 or 10 years down the road? But here’s what I do believe in with all my heart…having a VISION for what you want your life to look like is the key to building the business of your dreams.
When we’re thinking about our life vision, we often think about what we want to BE. But it’s so infrequent that we sit down and think about how we want to FEEL. If your grand ideas of what you want life to look like ends up making you feel like crap…i.e. overworked, exhausted, no time freedom, stressed out, etc…then it’s NOT THE RIGHT VISION!
But how do we even go ahead figuring out what we want our life to look like now and in the future? It’s time to do a check in, sister.
We all wear so many hats in our lives…mama, friend, sister, daughter, wife, and on and on. How often is it that we check in on how we feel in each of these areas? With these roles being at the core of who we are, checking in regularly is vital to keeping that joy-filled heart.
When I started doing this exercise years ago (shared with me by the amazing Brandy Salazar), I realized that I didn’t feel great about most areas of my life. And overall, I was completely drained. After sitting with this practice, I defined a daily check in process for myself, and now, for other mamas too…
Life Vision – Check In Areas:
- Energy
- Health
- Body
- Food
- Self
- Marriage
- Motherhood
- Friendships
- Business
- Finances
- Free Time
How to Stay on Track with Your Life Vision
Your life and it’s priorities will ebb and flow ALWAYS. During one period of your life, you may need to focus on your finances and your marriage. In other times, maybe focusing on your body and health is most important. The point of the daily check in is to make sure you FEEL the way you want to while reaching for that vision or yours.
Rate each of these areas of your life from 1-10 at least every week. Take notice of lower rated areas. These are the areas that you need to focus on until you get to where you want to be…It’s the LEVEL 10 LIFE! You may even identify patterns between the areas, such as sleep, energy, and food. Pattern recognition will allow you to make easier and more concentrated efforts toward improvement.
Your Vision is Worth It!
What I love about this exercise is that it reminds me of what’s most important in my life. It reminds me that it’s not about that big goal…it’s about the vision. If you’re anything like me, you want to feel loved and love big, you want to be a part of something bigger than yourself, you want to soak up the years that you have littles and tween and teens, you want to spend more time with your family than you do apart, you want to feel energetic and healthy and thriving. Am I right?!
It’s all intangible things…but in the end…it all feels right. Your vision is worth it, mama!
