Ever get an email, scroll to the bottom, and then get so enticed by the signature that you find yourself clicking on links and finding all new places to explore?!? Ya… me either! Not very often anyway. But occasionally, I have a beautifully formatted and clearly designed signature that hits my inbox and makes an impact on my memory! These are the types of email signatures that convert.
But why are they important, what are best practices, and what should your email signature include? I’m going to go over how to make sure your email is making an impact on your potential clients.
Why email signatures are important
When I think about the email signatures that come through my inbox that make an impact, it reminds me why intentional signatures make an impact. Here’s 5 quick reasons that come to the top of my head:
- Your Email Signature sets the tone of your business (Are you professional? Playful? Organized?) It can absolutely speak volumes about your brand.
- People are attracted to color in their inbox (dress things up, in your visual branding, of course)
- When you’re doing networking follow-up, people do actually want to know more about you, but they don’t want to go looking for it.
- When you make getting to know you easy, then the know-like-trust triangle forms a lot quicker.
- If people know-like-trust you, they become hot leads… and hot leads convert!
Best practices for email signatures
Before I get into the details of what should be included in your email signature, I’d like to note some best practices first:
- Keep it simple and only include what’s necessary
- Make it easy to read and follow (with your focused goal)
- Make it colorful, but not hard to read (preferably in your branding)
What should a converting email signature include?
- Your Picture
- Name
- Business
- Website
- (Other contact info if appropriate: phone, address, etc)
- Find Out More (call to action)
- Main Call to Action (freebie, get on your list, or some other way you can serve them)
- Favorite Social Media Links (1-2 links where you brand is the strongest)
