“You can’t pour from an empty cup.” I used to hate that saying. Until…I felt it in my bones. Until I had worn myself out to the point that I had nothing left to give. Only then did I finally understand what it meant to “fill your cup”…especially as a mom entrepreneur.
I know you’ve heard it before. Take care of yourself, mama! But if you’re an entrepreneur AND a mama like me…this is easier said than done. And it’s easy to “fill your cup” with the wrong things.
At first, I fell into a cycle of filling up my cup with things like wine and Netflix.
There’s nothing wrong with these things…but it’s what I thought I needed to unwind… turns out I was wrong. Have you been practicing “self-care” and still feeling like you’re pouring from an empty cup? We are all different in how we fill our cups, so let’s talk about how to be aware of our energy as mom entrepreneurs!
Start Journaling Your Feelings & Energy!
Remember when I shared with the Life Vision Guide? Do consistent weekly or monthly check-ins with different areas in your life. The first area I have on that list is ENERGY! Pay attention to the day-to-day.
After you partake in a “fill your cup” activity, take note of how you feel and the energy that it brings you. Are you filled with joy? Are you able to play with your kiddos a little longer? Are you optimistic and delightful?
Begin taking inventory of your go-to activities and actions that TRULY fill you up and allow you to give back to those around you.
Find Out How to Fill YOUR Cup
After you begin to notice what’s actually filling your cup, make sure to document them! I don’t know about you, but sometimes I can get busy and forget what resets my mind, body, and soul.
Here is my list of life-giving activities:
– Serving
– Giving
– Slowing down
– Moving my body
– Spending quality time with friends and family
– Being in nature
– Acupuncture
– Listening to my favorite playlist

How Filling Your Cup (or Not) Also Affects Your Business
Burnout anyone? Mamas feel this load already. But we are mamas who also run businesses. We can get into the burn-out cycle VERY EASILY. And it happens to the best of us.
When I think of the energy & joy I want to feel, I’m usually thinking about my kids and my hubby.
But as I’ve said many times, if our businesses are getting in the way of the life we envision having… if it’s getting in the way of our joy… if it’s getting in the way of our family… it’s not what we pictured it would be… it’s not worth it.
So if we are making a conscious effort to fill our cups and to ensure that we are continuing to build the life we dreamed of, we can always be sure that our business aligns with it.
Don’t Forget About Community
We all know that Entrepreneurship Isolation can get the best of us. As a mom, that journey can be even heavier than we imagined. When you fill your cup with life-giving actions, you are sure to feel a difference.
But remember, we are here with you. There are other mamas who feel the same way and who go through the same struggles that you do. One of the most important things you can do as a mom entrepreneur is to find a community of women who will join you in the journey.
Have you found a community yet? When I say that the mamas in the MOMpire Network are the most genuine I’ve ever known… I’m not exaggerating. Join the network for free for 30 days to meet them. You won’t regret it!
